If you have plans of moving to a new home or office, the best thing that you can do to make your move easier and stress-free is to make sure not to be one of the increasing number of victims of moving companies that scam their customers. Yes, you may not be aware of it but more and more people are getting scammed by moving companies. And you may not be also aware of it but more and more moving companies are resorting to scamming their companies in order to stay in business since the market is getting more and more competitive especially with the economy.
If you have no idea as to how a moving company can scam their customers, let me enlighten you now so that you can take the necessary precautions in choosing a moving company to hire. Well, the most common scam is when the moving company gives you a very low quote for the move and then charges you additional, or what is called hidden charges, before delivering your belongings. Now, many companies are practicing this scam and many people are forced to pay these hidden charges because if not, the moving company will not deliver their belongings. Yes, it is like kidnapping or hostage and you are forced to pay the ransom. You may ask how people would tolerate such practices? Well for one, and you may not realize this until now, it is impossible to get on with one's life, especially if you are new to the place, without your things and other personal belongings. Second, practicality wise, you the value of your belonging and the cost of replacing them, plus the additional cost of what it can bring you without your things, such as unable to go to work, is definitely cheaper compared to paying the moving company the hidden charges. Third, filing a complaint and waiting for it to be resolved takes time so in the mean time you do not have your furniture, clothes and other belongings.
So in order not to get scammed by a moving company, the first thing that you should do is to make sure you hire only a reliable moving company. Research the moving company. Know how long they have been in the business. Know if there are present and past complaints about the moving company. Know if there are cases against them and how they were resolved. After knowing these things, hire only the moving company that had not been involved in any such complaints and had been in the business long enough.
