An interim CMO may be a good call for companies with a low amount of start up capital that still have a need to handle their marketing needs. A CMO, or chief marketing officer, is a position that an established company or corporation fills in order to handle the marketing needs of that entity. There are times, however, when having a full time CMO may not be an optimal choice. This could be for any number of reasons, from the current CMO moving on to another company or resigning, to a new company that needs to begin its marketing campaigns but does not yet have the funds to hire a permanent, full time CMO.
Interim cmos often work for three months or longer, and can be extremely valuable because of their ability to analyze marketing demographics and opportunities for companies which may not have employees that otherwise have the experience needed to make a dent in a larger or fast paced market environment. With an interim CMO, you can gain a clearer position within a market within a short period of time, and get a valuable assessment on how your company may be perceived by the public. Thanks to the fact that many of these interim CMOs have experience with working with a number of different kinds of company, they may also be able to contribute a level of expertise that is multifaceted.
This means that they will be able to both fulfill their role as the interim CMO of your company for a limited amount of time, as well as bring new ideas or perspectives to marketing issues which may have existed before their arrival. In other words, if you are using an interim CMO in place of a CMO who has left or transferred, they may be able to address issues that your previous CMO had not been able to properly handle. This all depends on the quality of the interim CMO that you decide to work with at your company, as well as what sort of background they have in marketing; in order to be useful, they should have at least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a field that is at least somewhat related to the one that your company works with. An interim CMO that is able to bring a new perspective and fresh ideas to your company can be a smart move.
